Washington-Lee Class of 2018: An Old Town Senior Session

When your senior looks like a model and is super fun, you know you're going to have a good session, even if it's eight trillion degrees and nine thousand percent humidity.  Fortunately, Kristy spends her summers playing beach volleyball in Florida, so I knew she could deal!

We wandered Old Town and even the family dog got in on the fun!

Even though 2017 is nearly full, I will always do whatever I can to fit in a senior session!

#MilesForNicole: A Family Session

I met the mom in this family through some neighborhood stuff, but specifically because we're members of the same running club.  (That's been a theme on the blog lately!)  I've known her and her little girl for awhile now, but I loved photographing them alongside her husband and parents!  Grandparents who are in great shape, run races as a family, and are willing to be dragged all over Ft. Ward Park in pursuit of a great photo spot are obviously fun to photograph!  The sweet two year old was so obviously surrounded by love.

But there's more to this session and this story.  My absolute favorite image was one I shot in memory of a family member who passed away.  Her legacy is the reason her sister began running.  I won't do Nicole's story justice, but I urge you to read about her family's efforts here.  This year has featured a few hard and beautiful sessions - rainbow babies, kids facing major medical challenges, and families learning to live in the absence of someone they love.  Please let me know if there's a unique situation in your family you want to memorialize for your session - I'm happy to work with you to create the right image for your story.

Tomorrow, I'm going to be running 9 3/4 #KilometersForNicole (Sorry, haven't done the math in miles.  About 6.)  Much love.

Cake: A First Birthday.

Two years ago, I took some headshots for dad and did first birthday portraits for big sister.  In the years between, I've had the joy of photographing birthdays, newborn portraits, and holiday portraits.  My favorite though, might just be a good cake smash.

Cake smashes can be tough to photograph because, well, cake is EVERYWHERE, but I was lucky enough to have a very talented almost-three-year-old assistant, because big sisters make great helpers.

Expecting Baby #2: Old Town Maternity Session

Old Town Alexandria is one of my favorite photo spots, and Carlyle House is my go-to meeting spot.  When this family asked about my availability for a maternity session, I knew we'd have a great time based on their family photos last year.  Big-sister-to-be did great!  Maternity photos capture such a fun but hard time of waiting and expecting... and rushing and scrambling to get ready!
