Before your session:
A little planning goes a long way! I'll send you a questionnaire to help me plan what type of shots will work best for you and your family. Whether it's casual, posed, or just being silly, I want you to love your images.
Clothing: Comfort is key, and I'll do whatever I can to help you and your family feel comfortable in front of the camera. You want to look good but also feel natural. Here's all my top tips for dressing to make the most of your session! I love this series of posts with great color combinations for families. Let me know if you'd like my focus to be black and white shots.
For maternity sessions, reach for clothes that show off your belly, or a flowing dress that allows you to hug your bump and accentuate that new little person.
For high school seniors, layers are great (for guys and girls) to provide a few different looks. Consider what defines you as a senior - your cleats or volleyball, your books, your paintbrush? We can incorporate props. Again, let me know the purpose of the photos, whether a graduation announcement, party invitation, or for social media so I can tailor your photos to your needs.
Makeup: Matte finish is your friend! Any of that beautiful glow might look a little too shiny, so think powder. A little drama is fun, but make sure you are comfortable. Let your lovely self show! Want a little help? Check out Beauty by Word of Mouth. (They're on Facebook, too.)
Location: My favorite photo locations include Old Town Alexandria, including Carlyle House and various industrial areas, the waterfront, and the famed garage door, Ft. Ward Park, Bon Air Rose Garden, your home, and any other location significant to you! Remember, most DC locations require permits and extra time.
During your session:
Fun shows up on the camera. Enjoy each other's company. Laugh. Be silly.
Don't worry about your kids acting perfect. Generally, smiling adults make for beautiful photographs. I love to capture your family, exactly as they are. That may not mean beautifully posed toddlers if the toddlers don't want to pose, but it will always mean your reality and beauty and fun!
After your session:
Within a couple days of your session, a sneak peek will be posted to my social media channels to give you a taste of the fun images to come!
Within ten days of your session, I will send you a link to your gallery and a download link if you've purchased a digital package. You will also receive a link to install your gallery as an app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device. Each image is individually edited to achieve a specific look and mood. Once you have your link, you can use that link to order downloads, prints, books, or to share via social media.
Client galleries can be found here. Even if it's been months since your session, you can order holiday cards here - I've partnered with Minted to simplify your ordering process. Take a look at these samples. If your photos aren't pre-uploaded, just email me and I can take care of that! The same site works for birth announcements. For photo books, I love Blurb.com. I am an affiliate with both Minted and Blurb.
If your gallery is password protected and you've forgotten your password, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
And as a special gift to you: I offer 3 4x6 prints for each new client referral after the new client session is complete.
