Sisterhood: Arlington, VA Family Photographer

These girls are some of my favorites.  I love photographing the same families over the years, because I love to see how kids grow and change.

We had a blast at the Bon Air Rose Garden, running around, laughing during costume changes, and making a quick stop at the playground for a little break.  We managed to get the timing right for some golden light, despite a quick thunderstorm that threatened just an hour before we met up!

I'm continuing to schedule for the rest of 2016, and it's crazy to look at my calendar for September and see so few free slots already!  If you're thinking about booking before the holidays, do so now, even though it's only June!

Spring is Here {Arlington, VA Family Photographer}

Saturday morning was NOT raining, which more or less amounts to a miracle.  (We are on day #13 straight of rain, for any non-local readers.)

I collected my fantastic intern Jessica and we headed out to make sure we had ample dry spots at our location for our photo session.... and found the "Walk for Animals," a DJ, and overcrowded parking.

A quick phone call to the clients and we moved across the street to the Bon Air Rose Garden, where the ground was still soggy but where we were free to roam without lots of other people around!

This family was lots of fun and the sisters were super sweet together.  In almost every picture, the baby is looking at her big sister!

I'm booking now for summer and fall.  My rates are increasing in July, but if you book before that, you lock in the current rate!

Up next: A family session next weekend, some prom photos soon after that, and TWO spots available for May/June!

Family: Arlington, VA to Sacramento, CA.

As I mentioned in my last post, I recently took my youngest to California with me to attend my grandfather's memorial service.

Yes, there was great sadness, because the world lost a fantastic man.  But there was also great joy as I saw my cousins for the first time in years and met their spouses and kids.

Here are a few shots of my cousin's youngest daughter.  Baby Caroline loved her, although I think she kept hoping big sister Ellie would show up.

I'm home now and back in the swing of things.  Spring sessions are quickly filling up - and I'm ready to get back to outdoor photography with flowers and golden light.  Dates available through April include March 13, March 19, April 2, April 3, April 9, April 10 and April 30, although most of those dates have limited time slots.  Weekday evening sessions are primarily reserved for high school seniors, and those sessions are very limited.  It's fun to think about joyful photo sessions coming off a sad couple weeks.  I've been back out with my camera photographing some headshots and stay tuned for a couple adorable families coming up!

For all the latest, follow along on Facebook.

Lately + Snow.

I'm opening my schedule for family photography in February and on, but until then, I'm enjoying photographing my own sweet kids.

And keeping it real, with more lifestyle photos that winter seems to require.

Days spent inside, cold weather, kids either happy to play or frustrated with each other or laughing.  (And mostly pictures of the baby - Ellie prefers to be behind the camera these days!)

But real.

Along with my regular outdoor family, child, and high school senior portraits, I'm booking a few lifestyle sessions in Northern Virginia this winter.

And if you want photos with this snow in the background, contact me ASAP!  All snow sessions are dependent on weather/plows/roads/snow melt.

Happy snow days, local friends!

Turning Three in Old Town: Alexandria, VA Family Photographer.

I had the opportunity to photograph a cute little guy on his third birthday over the weekend.  The session was full of pleasant surprises.  During the week, his mom and I had emailed all sorts of back up plans in case of freezing temperatures.  Then the weather report kept showing rain.

Somehow, we had upper 50s or low 60s and clouds.

This family used to be our neighbors, and this is the same little boy who literally ran from my camera on Halloween, less than a month ago.  Over the weekend, he was cooperative and hilarious and not at all hesitant around that big camera.

Happy third birthday, B!

Somehow we still had leaves, too!

**I am officially booked for 2015.  I am starting to reserve sessions for 2016, primarily starting in March.**
